History
When Moti Mahal first opened in Delhi in 1959, the restaurant was an immediate success. Familiar faces included India’s first Prime Minister, Jawahalal Nehru, his daughter Indira Ghandi as well as the Kennedys. At that time, it was among only a handful of fine dining establishments in India; it was also the first to bring the tandoor oven into the commercial kitchen.
With the opening of the London outpost in 2005, Moti Mahal has joined a rising trend in Indian gastronomic restaurants in the British capital. Since then, Moti Mahal has been consistently rated among the top five such establishments in London with the Delhi-born Anirudh Arora operating as head chef since the restaurant’s inception.
The current premises are located on the fringe of the theatre district a short, three-minute walk from the Inigo Jones-designed landmark, Covent Garden. It is also a short journey into The City, making this a popular, easy-going venue for both businesspeople and families, for lunch and dinner, with pre- and post-theatre sittings.
